Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
“A Heart After God’s Heart”
Text: 1Samuel 13:14
“But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.”
“A Heart After God’s Heart,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. Early in Saul’s reign as king over Israel the fatal flaw of pride and self-sufficiency arose in Saul’s character. His heart was “after himself,” not God.
He chose a 3,000 man body guard; 2,000 for himself personally and 1,000 for his son Jonathan. Saul trusted in himself and people, rather than God; this is what a “heart after himself,” does. Saul’s replacement King David is referred to in our text as “a man after His own heart.” Contrast these words of King David in (Psalm 20:7) with King Saul:
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”
Listen up Warrior! The Crucible of affliction and distress will reveal if we Have a Heart After God’s Heart. The sight of 30,000 chariots, 6,000 horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude; and his people scattered away from him, revealed Saul’s heart after himself. He disobeyed God’s command to wait for Samuel to come and offer the sacrifice (1Sam.10:8); and stepped into Samuel’s place as prophet and priest of God and offered the sacrifice himself. When he was confronted by Samuel in our text his pride refused to repent, offering excuses instead.
A Heart After God’s Heart has exchanged their heart for God’s Heart. The Warrior’s Heart is in the hand of God - and God’s Heart beats in our chest! Ooooh Rah! This is a Warrior’s Heart that is After God’s Own Heart.
When we face the impossible against us, our Commander’s Heart in us rises up to swallow up all our spiritual enemies:
“So shall they fear
The name of the LORD from the west,
And His glory from the rising of the sun;
When the enemy comes in like a flood,
The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.” (Isa.59:19).
Hear the words of our Commander and King
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:15-18).
The Warrior’s Heart is A Heart After God’s Heart. Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
