Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
“Back To Bethel”
Text: Genesis 35:1
“Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
“Back To Bethel,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
Jacob named the altar he made at Bethel “El Bethel,” which means: “God of the House.”
“And he built an altar there and called the place El Bethel, because there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.” (Gen.35:7)
This was the place where Jacob’s First Love for God was birthed from his desperate fear of his brother Esau’s revenge.
Now God is telling Jacob to go Back To Bethel and Live There! Live where God is “God of the House!”
But to do this he must cleanse his house of all idolatry first; because God will not allow idolatry in His house.
If God is not Lord of All - He’s not Lord at all!
So Jacob commanded everyone in his house to get rid of their idols, and earrings of idol charms. As Jacob did, so his house followed and obeyed.
As Jacob and his family obeyed God, He put fear and terror in the minds of the surrounding Canaanite nations, so they did not revenge the slaughter of Shechem executed by his sons Simeon and Levi.
God calls you and I also to go Back To Bethel, the place of our First Love; and Live There. We were in a desperate place, like the old Gospel Song says:
“Shackled by a heavy burden
'Neath a load of guilt and shame
Then the hand of Jesus touched me
And now I am no longer the same.......
He touched me, oh, He touched me
And oh, the joy that floods my soul
Something happened and now I know
He touched me and made me whole..”
I remember my Bethel many times, especially when I share my testimony of meeting my Lord with others.
We go Back To Bethel every time we are faced with impossible challenges. We’re reminded of how desperately we need God of our House with us to help us.
We can go back to Bethel every morning when we have Breakfast with our Commander. If there’s anything that tries to take the place of our First Love we get rid of it like a piece of trash. Because God is God of this House. He Is El Bethel. Ooooh Rah!
