Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(2Chron. 23 & 24)
“Building a Character of Godliness”
Text: 2 Chron. 23:16
“Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king, that they should be the LORD’s people.”
“Building a Character of Godliness,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
Jehoiada made a covenant between God and himself, the people of Judah, and child king Joash, “that they would be the LORD’s people.”
To “be the LORD’s people,” we must Build a Character of Godliness; and this means we grow a Personal Relationship of Obedience with God.
From an infant to a grown man King Joash was “fathered” by Jehoiada. Joash had a good relationship with Jehoiada:
“Joash did what was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.” (2Chron.24:2).
And Judah had a good relationship with Jehoiada also:
“When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; they made from it articles for the house of the LORD, articles for serving and offering, spoons and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.”(2Chron.24:14).
However, both Joash and Judah had a good relationship with Jehoiada, but they never “grew a Personal Relationship of Obedience with Yahweh!” So when Jehoiada died their “character of godliness” dissolved; because it was Built Upon a Man, instead of God!
“Now after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them.
Therefore they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served wooden images and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem because of their trespass.
Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them back to the LORD; and they testified against them, but they would not listen.”(2Chron.24:17-19).
Today we have a “New Covenant” with God, with better promises (Heb.8:6), and also our Helper Holy Spirit Who works in us both to Will and to Do of His Good Pleasure”(John 16:7,13; Phil.2:13).
Building a Character of Godliness for us is Personal and it begins with the unconditional surrender of our life to God. Jesus comes into our heart and brings Holy Spirit our Helper to Guide us into all Truth. Our responsibility is to obey and cooperate with Our Helper Holy Spirit as He Guides us into all Truth. Our Character of Godliness is not built upon any human being, or any church; it is built upon our Personal Relationship with God.
Listen up Warrior! Teach those whom you Disciple to build their Personal Relationship with God FIRST, then they can “follow you as you follow God! (1Corin.11:1).
The Character of Godliness is the fruit from Abiding in the Vine of Jesus Christ, like a branch lives because of the Life from the vine. When we are attached personally to Jesus by Faith and Obedience, our “branch” grows a Character of Godliness.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”(John 15:4-5).
How We Live is the Fruit of Who We Are.
