Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
“Despising The Birthright”
Text: Genesis 25:34
“And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.”
“Despising The Birthright,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
The Biblical Birthright had two blessings; a material blessing and a spiritual blessing.
The material blessing was “a double portion,” of the father’s wealth, among their siblings.
The spiritual blessing becoming the head of the family and spiritual leader of the family.
The Birthright was usually reserved for the firstborn son.
In the case of Esau and Jacob God had chosen Jacob to receive the birthright before he was even born!(v.23).
Esau’s behavior of preferring the lentils over the birthright that “he thought would his;” was seen as Rejecting, or Despising The Birthright.
I was thinking about The Birthright Our Commander Jesus Christ purchased for all of us, by His Sacrificial Death on the Cross and Resurrection.
“ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:10-13).
By our Faith and Trust in the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross “we receive Him,” and we have the Birthright of “becoming children of Almighty God!” Wow! What a Treasure!
Just look at this list of what this birthright includes in Eph.1:3-14. We should read and chew on these verses regularly!
However, there are still many, like Esau, who continue to reject, and despise The Birthright Jesus purchased for them; by choosing the “lintels,” and temporary pleasures of this world, instead of the eternal joy of God.
How do people despise their spiritual birthright today?
Some people may spend more time on social media than they spend with God, reading their Bible and listening to God.
Some people may compromise their “birthright “ for popularity or fitting in with a social crowd.
Maybe we should visit Dr Holy Spirit and get a Spiritual Checkup; and see if we may have “Despised, or taken lightly our Spiritual Birthright. Let’s start reading Ephesians 1:3-14 more regularly and Treasure our Birthright over all the passing pleasures of this world.
Don’t Trade Eternity with God for anything in this dying world! Oooh Rah!
