Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day;
“Growing a Shepherd’s Heart”
Text: 1 Samuel 16:11-13
“And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”
So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”
“Growing a Shepherd’s Heart,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
Oh Hallelujah! God’s Heart IS A Shepherd’s Heart; and David was a “man after God’s heart” because he was Growing a Shepherd’s Heart.
God chose David because He saw what nobody else saw - a shepherd’s heart growing in David. God looks at the heart not the physical appearance of the person. Many times God chooses the one nobody else wants.
Because he was the youngest of 8 brothers David was given the lowest job of “keeping the sheep;” and so he wasn’t even considered as one of Jesse’s sons. He wasn’t invited to the feast with his brothers and he would never have been considered as a son of Jesse unless Samuel insisted!
David Was Growing A Shepherd’s Heart. This Shepherd’s Heart would later make him the Greatest King in Israel’s History, and pave the way for Messiah, the Chief Shepherd of God’s people to come and rescue humanity, as Son of Man, Jesus Christ Son of David!
As a keeper of sheep David spent a lot of time with God and the sheep, and God built a Shepherd’s Heart in David to sing about His glory in all creation. Many of his Psalms show his growing shepherd’s heart to us; especially Psalm 23 known as the Shepherd’s Psalm.
In effect David saw himself as a Sheep who was being led by God as His Shepherd.
Aaaah Yes, “God uses Sheep to build Shepherd’s for His people.”
God modeled this as Son of Man Himself, as the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29), and as the Good Shepherd who gives His Life for the sheep (John 10:11).
You and I cannot Grow a Shepherd’s Heart without spending time with God each and every day.
Holy Spirit Grows a Shepherd’s Heart in you and I as we spend time with the Good Shepherd!
He knows you and I by name and we know His Voice (John 10:3), because we eat Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner with Him each and every day.
We learn to Love God Supremely and to Love others the way God Loves them - by spending time with Him every day.
As you and I are “being transformed from glory to glory more not His image,” We Learn, We Grow, and We Practice Psalm 23 as our Lifestyle.
Be confident of this, my fellow Warrior; that as you spend time with your Commander Jesus Christ and Walk with Him in obedience - Holy Spirit is Growing a Shepherd’s Heart in you to Love Him Supremely as your Shepherd and Your King - and Then You will lead others the same way The Good Shepherd leads you; “laying His Life down for you! Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
Jesus and Billy
