Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(2 Samuel 1)
“How We Live is How We Lead”
Text: 2 Samuel 1:11-12
“David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him.
And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the LORD and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.”
“How We Live is How We Lead,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. When we Live our Life with the Goal of Loving God Supremely and our Fellow Man Equally - we will Lead others to Do The Same! Love is How We Live and Love is How We Lead others.
How We Live is How We Lead.
David was clearly a man after God’s heart. He had his failures like all men, but his passion and Goal was to Love God Supremely - and this helped him to love others, friends and enemies, the way God loved him.
After the news of Saul and Jonathan’s death, and the defeat of Israel’s army, David mourned and wept - and so did his men. David Loved Saul, Jonathan, and Israel; and that’s why he mourned and wept at their death. This is How David Lived and How He Led others.
We see this in our text as David’s men followed his lead, mourning as he mourned for Saul (enemy of God and David), and Jonathan and the people.
Most of us can understand how natural it is to love our friends and loved ones, and even our nation; but it’s not natural to love those who hate us.
Only by God’s Love working in us can we love our enemies.
“You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matt.5:43-48).
Our Commander Jesus Christ set the Perfect Model for us:
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Rom.5:8,10).
How Do We Love Our Enemy?
First, by remembering that we used to be like them; an enemy of God.
Second, Holy Spirit helps us to love them with His Love by doing good to them and praying for them to repent and come to Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Then they will become our brother or sister instead of our enemy.
“Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord GOD, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?” (Ezek.18:23)
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2Pet.3:9).
This is How Our Commander Jesus Christ Lives and How He Leads; in His Love! May God help us to faithfully imitate our Commander’s Way of Life and Way of Leadership! Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
