Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(Judges 11:29 - 12:15)
“Keep Your Vow”
Text: Judges 11:30-31
“And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD, and said, “If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands,
then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’s, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”
“Keep Your Vow,” is on the menu for Breakfast this morning. As the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah He advanced toward the Amorites and made this vow to God; not knowing that it would cost him his only child.
Listen up Warrior! Making a Vow to God will Cost You More than you realize. We make a vow to God by Faith; not knowing what the true cost will be, but Depending upon the Grace of God to sustain us and enable us To Keep Our Vow!
Jephthah Kept His Vow and it cost him his daughter, whom he set apart as dedicated unto the Lord as a virgin. It cost him his future seed. It cost his daughter her life as a wife and mother and grandmother; and she was willing to pay this cost because it was worth it to her: “Then she said to her father, “So she said to him, “My father, if you have given your word to the LORD, do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, because the LORD has avenged you of your enemies, the people of Ammon.” (Judges 11:36).
King David speaks of the character of those who will live with the Lord saying: “.... he who swears to his own hurt and does not change.” (Psa.15:4)
We don’t know what the future holds - but we do know Who Holds the Future; our Commander and King! Ooooh Rah! So, we make our vow in Faith depending upon His Grace to sustain us and enable us to Keep Our Vow.
Some would say, “it’s better to not make any vows to God.” And I would say “shallow faith belongs to those who have never made a vow to God.”
This is how we build our Faith and Trust in our Commander Almighty God. We start with “baby steps,” in fasting one meal. God helps us and refreshes us through this fasting and our faith grows. Next we fast for one Day. Again God helps us and takes us into deeper intimacy with Him.
Yes, there is a cost to the vow we make and we are willing to pay that cost as Jephthah’s daughter was willing to pay - Because “the Gain we receive is Far Greater than the cost we pay!” The cost we pay is temporary, the gain we receive is eternal!
Our Commander’s Vow to Do the Will of His Father and to Finish His Work, was His food that sustained Him (John 4:34). His Vow cost Him His life as Son of Man -
“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”(1John 3:8)
but it was worth it:
“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”(Heb.12:2)
Every vow I have ever made was from a heart of desire to Know Jesus More Intimately. God has sustained me and helped me Keep My Vows to Him for the past 42 years and He will continue His Faithfulness forever, because He is Unchanging.
Remember this my fellow Warrior, “what you lose on earth is temporary, what you gain in eternity is Forever!” Like the Apostle Paul said:
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Rom.8:18).
Our vows make God’s Word become flesh in our life. Holy Spirit will sustain us and enable us to Keep Our Vow. Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
