Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(2 Samuel 2)
“Living In the Plan of God”
Text: 2 Samuel 2:1-2
“It happened after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?”
And the LORD said to him, “Go up.”
David said, “Where shall I go up?”
And He said, “To Hebron.”
So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.”
“Living in the Plan of God,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. King David is learning where the Source of his Confidence and Trust lies; Living in the Plan of God! This requires two things: Knowing what the Plan is - and then Obeying God’s Instructions, “even when they don’t make sense to us.”
With King Saul dead it would be easy for David to just rush in and proclaim himself king. Instead, “David inquired of the Lord,” if he should go up to any of the cities of Judah, his homeland; and if so, to which city should he go?
David Knew he was living in the Plan of God for his life - but he wanted to Stay in God’s Plan; that’s why he inquired of the Lord. When God answered David’s questions, David obeyed. He went up from Ziglag and went to Hebron with his family and his men; and he Went With Confidence that he was Living in the Plan of God! Ooooh Rah!
This is a picture of our Commander Jesus Christ. He Knew He was Living in the Plan of God His Father; it was His meat, food, and passion to finish His Father’s Plan:
“Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” (John 4:34)
And He wrapped up His Plan on earth at the Cross:
“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (John 19:30).
He didn’t need to understand the plan, He Obeyed His Father’s Instructions:
“Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” (John 8:28-29).
Our Commander and King “learned Obedience by the things He suffered:”
“Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear,
though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” (Heb. 5:7-8).
Listen up Warrior! We can’t Know God’s Plan of good works for us (Eph.2:10), unless we spend time “inquiring of the Lord!” Daily sitting at His feet; reading, learning, and practicing His Word in our life:
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” (Prov.3:5-6).
And it’s not enough to Know His Plan for us - we must Obey and live our life in His Plan, even when it’s difficult to bear the consequences of our obedience.
There’s going to be resistance in this world to our Obedience. It’s called trials and persecution. We’ll grow up stronger from this, and “learn obedience,” the way our Commander Jesus learned obedience - by the things He suffered!
David suffered through wars within his country and outside with the Philistines. Our Commander suffered every grief and sorrow we could ever suffer!
The Warrior is no stranger to combat. We were born in combat, we live in combat, and we’ll leave this earth in combat with our last breath! And all through our journey through God’s Plan of Good Works for us - we will Live in Confidence that we are In His Plan and In His Hand Continually! This is the Thrill of Living in the Plan of God! Oooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
