Good Morning Warrior!
This is the Lord’s Day, Celebration Sunday, and His Word for the Day is:
Text: Joshua 22:5
“But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
“Love Listens,” is on our menu this Sunday morning for Breakfast. In our Breakfast reading we see the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh returning to their inheritance on the eastern side of the Jordan River. They have been reminded to “take careful heed” to obey the law of Moses, Loving God Supremely and walk in His ways.
They build an “altar of witness,” which is misunderstood by Israel as an “altar of sacrifice,” substituting for the altar at Shiloh. When the tribes are confronted by Israel’s elders - they Listen to the full accusation before they speak. This is what happens when we Love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength; we Walk In His Ways. Love Listens. By being Quick to Listen and Slow to Speak a civil war was averted.
James speaks of loving God under trials this way: “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20).
When we Love God with all our life we are ‘settled’ in our relationship with Him. In other words, “we know that He knows the Truth about us, when others misunderstand and accuse us of unrighteousness.” We can then be “swift to hear and slow to speak;” because we are ‘settled’ in our relationship with God.
Listen up Warrior! When we are in right relationship with God, we’re not threatened by accusations or misunderstandings - we rest and rely upon our position in God’s eyes.
God shows us this clearly in the life of Job. For 37 chapters God is “listening” to the foolishness of Job’s “friends” and the agony of Job. God doesn’t “speak” His answer to these accusations until chapter 38. Love Listens! Love is Quick to Listen and Slow to Speak. Here’s our lesson in this: Love God Supremely and Walk in His Ways - and you will always be ready to respond to the questions of others, with meekness and fear honoring your Commander. A final Word:
“And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?
But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.” (1Pet.3:13-17). Oooh Rah! Warrior at your side,
