Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(2 Samuel 18)
“Our Supreme Love Belongs to God”
Text: 2 Samuel 18:5
“Now the king had commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, saying, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom.”
The Principle that “Our Supreme Love Belongs to God,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:26). These are the words of our Commander and King Himself, describing Supreme Love. Our Supreme Love Belongs to God.
King David was a great Warrior but there were times when he was a weak father. He had loved himself and his son’s Amnon and Absalom more than he loved God. Beginning with the matter of David and Bathsheba, then Amnon and Tamar, then Absalom’s murder of Amnon. David repented of his sins against Bathsheba and her husband Uriah; but Amnon and Absalom did not repent, and David failed to correct them with what the law of God demanded. In short, In these situations David loved his sons more than he loved God.
He commanded the captains and all the army “to be gentle” with Absalom, the traitor and enemy of God!
At the end of this battle King David weeps for his son’s death. I believe that part of his weeping was his regret of parental indulgence that brought Absalom to this point of treason.
Let us take a lesson from King David today and affirm first that Supreme Love Belongs to God Alone! Remember this Warrior: You Obey Who You Love Supremely!
God corrects us with Love, as His son and daughter so we can learn how to correct our son and daughter with Love:
“He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” (Prov.13:24).
Correcting our children is not easy, it’s hard! It’s hard on them and it’s hard on us too as parents! Most of the time they’re not happy, they’re angry. But affirming them in Love as our son and daughter helps them learn the truth that “wrongs must be corrected, and Learned From.”
God’s correction is not easy either. Yet He affirms us as His son and daughter; and helps us to grow more into His image and likeness.
“...... My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Heb.12:5-11).
When we train up a child the way God trains us up (to Love Him Supremely); then they will not depart from this way as they grow up.
“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Prov.22:6).
Our Supreme Love Belongs to God; as a son and daughter, as a mom and a dad, as a husband and a wife, and as a Warrior in the Kingdom of God.
Listen up Warrior! I say again, your Mission is to Love God Supremely and your fellow man equally as God Loves You. Ooooh Rah!
