Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(Judges 9:1 - 10:5)
“Serve or Be Served”
Text: Judges 9:2
“Please speak in the hearing of all the men of Shechem: ‘Which is better for you, that all seventy of the sons of Jerubbaal reign over you, or that one reign over you?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and bone.”
This inner passion to “Serve or Be Served,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. This is a picture of our Commander Jesus Christ as the “Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”(Matt.20:28). This is the heart of God to Serve that drove Gideon.
Our enemy the devil is the father of coveteousness, wanting what belongs to Almighty God. This is that spirit that drives wicked people like Abimelech.
So we see that this passion is a matter of the heart. A heart filled with Love has a passion to Serve others, while a heart filled with coveteousness has a passion to Be Served. Coveteousness is the desire to have what belongs to another. Gideon had a passion to Serve others - while his son Abimelech’s passion was to be Served.
Gideon’s life of Service to Israel brought 40 years of peace to Israel and a full life to Gideon. Abimelech’s coveteousness drove him to murder his brothers to get what belonged to them; only to be killed a few years later.
Our lesson here Warriors, is to regularly check our heart and attitudes. Our Helper, Holy Spirit helps us do this.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26).
He reminds us that we have a plan of good works prepared for us to walk in (Eph.2:10). This is a plan of Service to our Commander and King, and our Service to others so they might know Him. It’s a Perfect Plan so why should we ever want what belongs to others? This plan of good works includes our Helper working in us, causing us to love what what our Commander loves; and empowering us to do what our Commander wants us to do. This plan includes the Presence of our Commander with us at all times - here on earth and in heaven forever. Our Helper Holy Spirit is our Personal Guide through all the stuff of life, the storms, the tears, the seasons of chaos; He Guides us through it all!
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13).
This is why the Warrior chooses to Serve not to Be Served. This is why we were Created with a Plan of Good Works - to Serve! Oooh Rah!
