Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
“Showdown at Mount Carmel”
Text: 1Kings 18:19-20
“Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.
So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel.”
“Showdown at Mount Carmel,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. A “Showdown,” is a decisive confrontation or contest. God instructs Elijah to present himself out of hiding to Ahab. He asks Ahab to gather all Israel and the false prophets to Mount Carmel for a Showdown between Almighty God and baal to decide who is the True God. A sacrifice is to be prepared, “.....and the God that answers by fire, He is God” (v.24).
The false prophets go first and after several hours of pleading with their false god, baal is silent and exposed as a fraud. Elijah’s prayer to Almighty God is less than a minute and the Fire of God falls spectacularly consuming not only the “water soaked sacrifice” but also all the wood, stones, and water in the trenches:
“Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.”(1Kings 18:37-38).
Listen up Warrior! There’s a Showdown at Mount Carmel today, wherever the Warrior of God walks with their Commander and King. A “decisive confrontation or contest,” between the false god’s of this world and Our Commander Almighty God!
Our Surrendered Life is the sacrifice on the altar:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”(Rom.12:1-2).
The Holy Fire of our Helper, Holy Spirit; has consumed the Warrior with God’s Amazing Love, empowering them to display the transforming work of God in their life - “...a living letter known and read by all men:”
“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;”(2Corin.3:2).
At this awesome display of God’s All Consuming Fire Israel is Convinced, screaming “The Lord, He is God, The Lord, He is God.”(v.39). Yes, Israel was Convinced, but Not Changed; their stubborn lawlessness and idolatry soon returned because their repentance was insincere.
Only the genuine repentance of the Warrior as “a living sacrifice” for their Commander can bring the “transforming work of Holy Spirit” into their life. The Warrior is no longer conformed to the ways of this world but is continually being transformed by the renewing of our mind to prove the perfect will of God in our life.
Unlike Israel at this time, Our Change is a continuing transformation into His likeness each day as we walk with our Commander in obedience:
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”(2Corin.3:18).
I believe the Showdown at Mount Carmel is to be a type of the Warrior’s Surrendered Life with their Commander; the Living Sacrifice of the Warrior consumed by the All Consuming Fire of their Commander’s Love and Power - Displaying Christ in us the Hope of Glory, for all the world to see in Wonder and Awe as they say “The Lord, He is God, The Lord, He is God.”
God and His Warrior win this Showdown at Mount Carmel every time Our Living Sacrifice meets His All Consuming Fire of Love! Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
