Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(1 Kings 12:25 - 13:32)
“Standing on the Promises of God.”
Text: 1 Kings 12:26-27
“And Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom may return to the house of David:
If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn back to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and go back to Rehoboam king of Judah.”
“Standing on the Promises of God,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. I remember an old Gospel chorus I sang in Sunday School as a little boy:
Standing on the promises of God my Savior,
I'm standing on the promises of God.”
Jeroboam has a promise from God that He would give Israel to him and build an enduring house for him - if Jeroboam would walk in God’s Ways and Keep God’s commandments:
“So I will take you, and you shall reign over all your heart desires, and you shall be king over Israel.
Then it shall be, if you heed all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as My servant David did, then I will be with you and build for you an enduring house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you.”(1Kings 11:37-38).
However Jeroboam did not trust and believe God’s promise and chose to do “in his own power,” what God had promised to do - if Jeroboam would Trust and obey God.
We too, have many promises from God in His Word; however, to deploy these promises in our life we must walk in God’s Ways and Keep His Commands. In other words, we need to Stand on the Promises of God by Faith and Trust in God Alone.
The Warrior has no confidence in their own physical ability to make a promise of God happen. Only God can and will do that. The best we can do is fail.
Jeroboam did not obey God so the best he could do was fail and he had no rest:
“And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.”(Heb.3:18-19).
However, the Warrior who Stands upon the Promises of God with obedience and trust in Him Alone, will find rest; and fight for righteousness from a place of complete confidence in the faithfulness of God:
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” (Heb.4:9-10).
Our Commander Always Keeps His Promises. Oooh Rah!
