Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
(2 Chronicles 32)
“The Surprise Exam”
Text: 2 Chronicles 32:7-8
“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor dismayed before the king of Assyria, nor before all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him.
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people were strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.”
“The Surprise Exam,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning.
I didn’t like Surprise Exam’s as a student. I preferred scheduled exams that I could study for and prepare myself for. Yet, surprise exams were actually more helpful for me - because the results showed me if I had “learned the lesson that I had been taught!”
Hezekiah and Judah have a surprise exam today. They have been doing well in their personal and national reformation and God has blessed them with peace, prosperity, and fame among their foreign neighbors. Now God has decided that it’s time for a Surprise Exam!
Let’s see if Hezekiah and Judah have learned the lesson of Trusting in God’s Power and Presence to Save them from all their enemies.
In 2Kings 18:13-16 we see that Hezekiah first tried to bribe Assyria to leave Judah alone, but was unsuccessful. This was the wrong answer for this exam; so God, in effect said “let’s have a ‘make up’ surprise exam,” and Hezekiah gets the right answer by humbling himself and turning to God with Isaiah the Prophet of God; in effect, Hezekiah turns away from the “arm of flesh,” to the Arm of Almighty God!”
Hezekiah and Judah were encouraged, God was Honored, and God Miraculously snatched the breath from 185,000 Assyrian Warriors in one nights work.
Warrior’s of God have Surprise Exams also, sudden attacks from our spiritual enemy!
These attacks are allowed to test whether we have learned the lessons of Faith and Trust that Holy Spirit our Teacher has taught you and I.
Consider your problem as a Target to hit with God’s Word!
Our Faith and Trust is Proven by these surprise exams…
Sometimes Warriors can get comfortable in their blessing and prosperity and even feel like they “earned” this by their good works for God;” this is what happened to Hezekiah in his later years.
“However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.”
Hezekiah repented of his pride showing off “his” treasures and “his” armory, that really belonged to God not himself. Hezekiah was the manager God was the Owner!
Be careful Warrior! Hidden in the Blessing and Peace of God is the snare of pride waiting to deceive you into taking Ownership of what Belongs to
God! The Warrior Owns Nothing - but Manages Everything!
Listen up Warrior! Learn your lessons from God’s Word well and you will find your “Surprise Exams,” are really “target practice,” designed to test your spiritual marksmanship! Ooooh Rah!
Warrior at your side,
Jesus and Billy
