Good Morning Warrior!
Word for the Day:
“The Test of Obedience”
Text: Lev. 11:46-47
“This is the law of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.’ ”
“The Test of Obedience,” is on our menu for Breakfast this morning. This Test, is what was behind these very detailed rules of what animals Israel could eat, (clean animals), and what animals they could not eat, (unclean animals). Even insects were included!
I imagine some of these animals were physically unhealthy to eat, and some may have been used by heathen idolaters in their practice of idolatry; but God’s law said they were unclean, and the people were not to eat or even touch them! This was a Test of Obedience.
Adam was told not to eat the fruit of Tree of the knowledge of good and evil, (Gen.2:17). This was a Test of Obedience. Adam and Eve both ate this forbidden fruit and died for their disobedience.
Israel and Adam would not have known what was clean and what was unclean unless they had known God’s law that said these animals were unclean (Rom.7:7-12; Gal.3:22-25).
Jesus came to fulfill this Law of of clean and unclean animals. His Life, Death, and Resurrection completed the requirements of the Law of Moses. (John 1:17). He has “cleansed and made clean all animals and birds of the air....(Acts 10:9-16). He has given us a New Covenant, a New Law of Grace and Love that regulates our Conduct and ‘appetites,’ the way clean and unclean animals regulated Israel’s Conduct under the Law of Moses.
Israel Obeyed by the Law by religious ceremony and practice. We Obey the Law of Grace through God’s Grace and Love working in us, making His ‘appetite’ become our appetite (Phil.2:12-13).
Our old nature enjoyed ‘eating’ the works of the flesh; lust of the flesh, lust of the eye, and the pride of life (Gal.5:19-21; (1John 2:15-17).
Our new nature in Jesus enjoys ‘eating’ the ‘clean’ Fruit of the Spirit that is Love? (Gal.5:22).
So now we pass the Test of Obedience by surrendering to our Commander’s Love that is working in us, transforming us, and growing His appetites in us every day. He says to us “If you love Me you will do My Commandments (John 14:15). In other words, We Do His Commandments because We Love Him. Ooooh Rah!
