We exist to be the hands and feet of Jesus to indigenous communities in Ethiopia by providing clean water and housing. We believe every human being is important and that we all play a part in spreading God’s love.

OUR STORY

Hands of Hope was founded by Billy Hall, a man whose life was forever changed by an encounter with God in 1980. As a young believer, Billy felt a deep eagerness to know God’s purpose for his life. In prayer, the Lord gave him a vision of nations to intercede for “as a father prays for his children.”

In 1984, that vision took shape when Billy traveled to Ethiopia. There he met his wife, Muluyey, and together they served faithfully in a network of underground churches. Two years later, God led Billy back to the United States with the promise that, in His timing, he would return to Ethiopia to continue the work.

That promise was fulfilled twenty-five years later. In 2011, God brought Billy and Muluyey back to Ethiopia, where Hands of Hope was born. What began with prayer and obedience has grown into a ministry that now provides clean water, food, shelter, and the hope of Jesus Christ to the Afar people and beyond.

Today, Hands of Hope’s water development projects in Afar, Tigray, and Amhara supply safe drinking water to over 100,000 people daily. Yet more than just water is flowing…

Entire communities are being transformed as they encounter the love and grace of Jesus. This story must continue.

In 2024, Hands of Hope completed the installation of a solar-powered water distribution center in Bidu Woreda, Afar.

This life-changing project now provides clean, accessible water to a community that once had to walk miles under harsh conditions to find it.

For many, the journey was especially difficult — pregnant women, the elderly, and those with health challenges often carried heavy barrels of water long distances.

Today, thanks to this new system, families can draw safe drinking water right in their own community. What was once a daily burden has become a blessing of hope, health, and dignity.
